Caring, capable people are often the ones who find it hardest to say no, ask for what they need, or protect their own energy. In this session, Jess Baker explores why, and it isn't a confidence problem.
Drawing on her award-winning book, The Super-Helper Syndrome, she introduces Compassionate Boundaries: a way to care deeply for others without abandoning yourself.
The session explores the habits that keep us over-giving, the guilt of stepping back, and how to recognise when someone else's needs have become your responsibility.
Jess Baker is a Chartered Psychologist, Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, award-winning leadership coach and author of The Super-Helper Syndrome.
She has wanted to be a psychologist since she was 12, and her work has taken her from business conferences to wellbeing festivals and online webinars, speaking to large global audiences about what it means to lead from a place of care and courage rather than control.
Jess has dabbled in stand-up comedy, trained in mindfulness-based stress reduction and self-compassion techniques. She has lectured at University of Cambridge, and writes on the power of empathy at work.
She is also the co-founder of Emplify, a movement helping empathic people recognise their own gifts, grow into leaders with influence and wisdom, and use their power as a force for good.
